Quiz 12/10/11

On this last writing project I had some strengths and weaknesses. Some of the strengths that I had in it were transitions and good vocabulary. I made sure to use transitions because I knew those would be important to include. I also decided to use better vocabulary's, such as words that would attract the reader more. I used lots of examples to back of my topic sentence and every paragraph. With strengths in my writing project, I also had weaknesses. Some of the weaknesses were that I think I might of repeated myself to much. I believe that I should earn a B on my writing project because I believe that I did a good job. I used everything I learned in this class and used it in my writing, or at least tried to.

Cover Letter

During this semester of English 091, I've learned many things, such as to make sure to capitalize certain words and where a comma is supposed to go. I have become more better in my writing skills. I have become stronger in my writing, because now I know a lot more things I didn't know before. It's easier for me now to make sure I'm sounding intelligent in my writing. It's also easier for me to get certain points across and how to persuade someone. This semester in English 091 has taught me how to become a more efficient writer and I think that on this portfolio I deserve a B or a C in worst case. Now that I have taken this class, my writing will be better than it was before and I plan on using everything I learned in this class in the future.

Writing Project 5

One of the best decisions I've made was to be in AP courses this year. AP courses are courses that are meant to be more rigorous to help you challenge yourself. Not most students enjoy taking them because they dread the amount of homework, the endless questions that will over flow on tests and the terrifying hours that will be needed to study for them. Taking AP courses is the best decision I've made because, I am challenging myself to be better than what I know I can be, I am one step ahead of the game and I will have lots of advantages.

First off, being in an AP course is challenging. It's nothing easy like reading and following along. It requires determination and the ability to keep up with everything that's going on in class. Being in a class that is as advanced as AP is a difficult task, but I love the challenge it gives me. I never really cared  about how important it was to study, but now that I am taking AP courses I realize that I would be in lots of trouble if I didn't. Taking AP courses has made me a stronger individual and a stronger student and as much as I hate taking endless amounts of notes and staying up for hours finishing homework, I know that only good can come from it.

Secondly, taking AP courses puts me one step ahead of the game. Colleges are going to immediately see that I was challenging myself and pushing myself to get better. Being in AP courses also prepares me for college. Taking an AP course gives me a feel of what college is going to be like. I can prepare myself now that I’m in high school and when I get to college, the classes I choose to take there will be easier for me. Taking AP courses will basically give me the opportunity to not only prepare myself for college but for life too, because it will help me become more independent in making decisions, it will help me know that challenging yourself once in a while isn’t that bad, and that sometimes in life you have to take bigger steps to get to where you want to be even though it could take some work.

Finally, taking AP courses will give me a lot of advantages. It gives me a better chance to get into college and in to receive admission into those particular schools. Also in taking AP courses you usually have to take an AP test which can easily, if I do well on it, give me the opportunity to get some sort of scholarship. Even though it’s a three-hour test it will be a good experience for me. I will have the advantage to gain better study skills and writing skills, because a lot of the times AP courses require you to do that. I’ll be ready to take any type of class if I’m willing to take an AP course and push myself.

Taking AP courses will definitely put me ahead of the game. Colleges are going to love seeing that I challenged myself and also that I didn’t give up, like some students end up doing. It’s going to help me better my future and my dream of going to college.

Quiz 12-3-11

The four teenagers died in a car accident due to bad decisions. The lack of understanding the dangers of being drunk let alone being drunk and driving. I do agree that the accident and the deaths of those boys were part of the drivers fault. But the blame can not be put upon just him, because the boys knew that they were all wasted and driving in a car would not be a good idea. It is also society's fault because of the message that is being sent out. The commercials that go on during Super Bowl season, you see beer here and beer there. Not drinking and trying to fit in with friends becomes a hard thing to do. The accident wasn't just the driver's fault, all of the others could've done the alternative and call someone who was sober to take them home. Every single person in that car could've stood up and made the right decision. But they chose not not.

Narrative Paragrah/ Final

I felt my heart rapidly speed up as I saw this huge monster running towards me. My feet felt as if they were glued to the ground, but quickly I recollected myself and immediately ran away from this horrible creature. I heard the laughter of my peers and team mates, which soon enough filled my ears. My feet felt heavy and my hands starting to sweat, but still I continued to run away thinking to myself, why this animal didn't stop chasing me. As I ran around the gym, I saw my friend Cody sitting on the bleachers burrying his head in his hands. I ran and jumped in his arms and hid my face from the horrid that had been following me. After, a couple minutes I lifted my head and wiped my tears, and in five minutes everything seemed to be a little better.

Quiz/ Nov. 19/ Grandpa's Garden

 A secure and safe place that I remember the most clearly, would have to be my grandpa's garden in Mexico. I thought that place, was beyond the imaginable. The different colored flowers, tulips and roses painted a rainbow across the blue sky. I ran around without a care, my small feet pressing on the fresh grass. I yelled, I danced, I sang, I did everything in that magical place. Sometimes, I would leave before my grandma made dinner to go pick flowers to place in the middle of the table. But what I loved most about this garden was that it wasn't just an ordinary garden. My grandpa's garden was bigger than any other garden. This garden had grass as tall as I was, about 3 feet tall for I was 5 years old and very small. But the best part to this garden, was the river. Crazy huh? A river in a garden. It was more than amazing and I remember sticking my feet in and feeling the fishes swim past my toes. To me that was paradise, a place where I could go and have fun and feel completely free.  

Algebra 2

Final Draft:

In my Algebra 2 class, I see three different peer attidudes: always paying attention, sometimes being attentive and totally off in their own world. The first peer attitude I see is they're always paying attention; it's usually the kids that sit in the front of the class that pay the most attention because they really have nothing else to do. They can't sneak their phones out and send a quick text because the teacher is standing right in front of them. One example of a peer that always pays attention is Sammi. She is always asking questions and volunteers to do answer questions by raising her hand even before the teacher is fully done asking the question. She is always getting her homework done in class and is always looking up at the teacher as he is speaking. She never gets off tack and she gives the teacher his full and undivided attention. A second peer attitude I see is they're somewhat engaged in the class. It's most commonly the students that sit in the middle of the class, that tend to have this attitude. One example of a peer that is somewhat engaged in class is Mason. Mason has a good grade in that class but sometimes gets off track and talks to his neighbors. He gets called on alot by the teacher so that the teacher knows he is really paying attention to the lesson the teacher is giving. Mason, asks questions whenever he doesn't completely understand the steps to an equation or the process of a problem. A final peer attitude I see is those who are off in their own world and have absolutely no idea what's going on. It is definitely those who sit in the back and take out their cell phones that whole class period and text and text and text some more rather than to do their class work or actually pay attention to the lesson being taught. An example of a peer that falls into this category is well, honestly ME. Diana doesn't pay attention in class at all, not one bit. She sits in the way back with her phone out on her desk and texts her boyfriend the whole class period. Her non-participation in class probably explains her bad grade. She tends to be distracted by the people around her, who are usually off in their own world too. In the back if the room is where the drama is being discussed, it's where the details are being spilled and for Diana that is way better than listening to Mr. Osuna run his mouth and fill the room with his explanations of how to solve a equation using the substitution method. These are three perfect examples of different peer attitudes in my Algebra 2 class.
